So now enough talking and start working now. Diving into the first step.
Step 1. Setup
So the first step is to buy a domain. There are many websites available from which you can have domain names of your choice and hosting platform. I am sharing few here:
If you know any other you can go for it, it not hard and fast rule to have these services only from the above given names.
Step 2. Downloading WordPress
Second step is to install a WordPress on your local host. If you don’t know about local host we will learn it when we proceed further. You can download WordPress from wordpress.org
Click on “Download WordPress 5.2.2” button and Zip file will be downloaded in your download folder
Step 3. Running WordPress
After installing you need to open it. And click start on Apace and MySQL.
Next thing, when you install xamp it will create xamp folder in your drive c, by clicking you will see htdocs folder. Copy the WordPress zip folder which we have download earlier and paste it in this htdocs folder and extract it.
Don’t worry you have almost completed the most technical part. Now open your browser and write “localhost/wordpress-5.2.2/wordpress” (sometimes the folder names is different, with respect to version of wordpress, just use the name of the folder name of your current version)
And follow the steps along.
First step is selecting language
Click on continue
When you will click continue
It will take you to database info page
After that open a new browser and open php my admin here is the address
And create a new database by entering name of your database.
After that complete info on the previous page. Write the name of database you just have created write username as password and it is optional if you want to create a database password or not and give prefix to website.
Then it will ask you to run the installation.
After running the installation you will asked to create a login information for your wordpress dashboard through which you will access backend of the wordpress.
Make sure you don’t check the “Discourage search engine from indexing the site” it will affect your SEO. Complete the form and proceed further by clicking on the install wordpress button. It will show you this page.
Click Login and you will login to the dashboard of the wordpress dashboard
Step 4. Selecting Theme
Design of your website is based on the wordpress theme which you have selected. When you install wordpress fresh it comes up with a default theme and it will look like this
But this is not what you want to design because it will not attract many users. If you want to select a free wordpress theme there are many and you can also get paid themes as well. To change your theme you have to select Appearance -> Themes
By clicking on add new you will get 4492 themes provided by wordpress to design your website. There are filters available like popular, feature, etc.
For this guide we will be using bento. It is one of the popular wordpress theme with multi -purpose ability.
Once the theme is installed you can customize it by clicking on customize option in Appearance section. It will open customize editor where we will customize our whole website layout.
Once you have installed your theme, now the next step is to add content to your site.
Step 5. Adding Content
There two content types in wordpress one is posts and second is pages. Posts are the part of blog section where you can share your blogs. Pages are static like home page, about page, contact page etc.
Default setting of the wordpress is, it will show blogs on home page but you can change it to static page as well.
Now start by adding pages to your website. Click on Pages -> Add New a page editor will show up.
Once you are finished with adding content like title of the page and otherdescription, click on publish.
Now let’s add blog posts. Click on the Posts->Add New
Add your complete content and then click on publish. In this you can add video, photos and also embed videos from different sources.
Step 6. Customizing your website
Now both pages and posts are added to your website it’s time we customize website a bit more.
Static Front Page
Go to Settings-> Reading
Click on A static page and configure same settings. As mentioned above.
Change Site Title and Tagline
Now head to Settings->General and change the tagline of the website as per your requirement.
After every change click on the save changes button.
Create Navigation Menus
Through navigation, user can navigate through whole website with single click. It is the most important part of any website.
Now go to Appearance->Menu page. Write a name for your navigation menu and click on the create menu button.
There are also option to add primary menu and secondary menu.
After adding all the menus we will now proceed to the next step.
Step 7. Plugins
Plugins are like applications which will increase the functionality of your wordpress website. Some plugins are provided by wordpress and some plugins are provided by 3rd party.
